David Wood - CEO of dr5 Chrome Lab

dr5 Chrome Lab provides the best quality film processing services available. Producing the highest quality B&W transparency, E6-color transparency, B&W negative-processing & proofing, Film Recording, Digital to film services and scanning.

What is dr5? dr5 is a custom built, from the ground up process, designed from scratch. dr5 is not a generic run-of-the-mill reversal B&W process and was not referenced by any published recipe. It is not the Kodak kit or the AGFA SCALA process. The dr5 process is a "trade secret" that was field as one in 1994 about 3 years after David came up with the final procedure and recipe. Industry inquires and lab visits are welcome. dr5 benefits far outweigh the time you will take to discover the parameters of the process. The learning curve, in part, is learning how the process reacts to existing films. Other considerations are: film speed variables, contrast change, push & pull, and differences in film types.

The dr5 process was designed to give the photographer the largest amount of variables, in essence, giving you the ability to put a B&W custom darkroom inside your camera! The photographer has the freedom to change the contrast, speed & tonal range at will, simply by either changing the ISO or selecting from over 25 different film types. dr5 also employs the use of two developers: a neutral developer (Developer 1), and sepia developer (Developer 2), the choice of either is yours at no extra charge..

dr5 is a process which produces not just B&W chromes, but images that are sharper, possessing more tonal range than any other means of film processing. dr5 was created to produce the highest quality B&W positives.

The dr5 process is a highly customized process. Quality control is very tenuous and precise. dr5 will not run your film unless everything in the production process is perfect. The dr5 equipment is a state of the art, one of a kind custom designed dip & dunk machine, specially engineered for dr5 by TECNOLAB. They also maintain a custom hand line for those special runs. ALL 3 of there quality processors are made by TECNOLAB.

The dr5 process produces a very high quality B&W finished art! Imagine not having to make contacts or prints for your clients. Imagine shooting archival, high-end B&W images 4 to 5x improved over the negative counterpart, providing the best B&W archival image ready to scan. The dr5 process turns almost any regular B&W negative film into an entirely new film line. Archival B&W transparencies !!
