Ron Mowrey - Photo Engineer

Ron Mowrey a former Kodak Research Associate and Senior Staff Member talks with Inside Analog Photo.

Ron was introduced to the magic of photography as a kid by his uncle who was a professional photographer and a graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography. Later Ron worked for many years in the photofinishing industry as he was going through college. He also spent several years in the USAF after collage as a military photographer. He became the Director of still photography at Cape Canaveral. Then Ron went back for his masters degree and joined Eastman Kodak and retired with 32 years in product research and development.

As an engineer at Kodak he worked on the development of the new Ektacolor 30 and 37 papers and produced the first blix used by Eastman Kodak in 1969. His other projects included Kodacolor Gold 400 film and Ektaflex along with a host of products which were never released. His name appears on 15 patents granted to Eastman Kodak as inventor or co-inventor. For the last 15 years of his career with Eastman Kodak Ron worked on the automation and scaling of emulsion making. He retired in 1997 from Kodak as a Research Associate and member of Kodak's Senior Staff.

Ron is now passing on his knowledge of emulsion making and coating technology. He is devoted to conventional silver halide photography. Very soon Ron will have out a book and DVD training on how to produce a Azo type paper and a black and white film emulsion and more.
